Oh yes. The temptations are all around. It’s quite tricky to make 3 meals plus snacks for my little ones who don’t ever eat very much at one time and burn calories running around a good part of the day and not overeat myself. The hardest part of this is our night time snacks. I have usually been giving them high calorie desserts such as cake and ice cream or chips and cheese but maybe I could switch them back to the kind of healthier options we used to have – like apples and other fruits which we call God’s desserts.
I originally planned to have cheat days on the days of the months with a 3 in the date – the 3rd, 13th etc. So far I have had cheats on other days but with Sept coming up I am going to resolve to limit myself to these days only. Since the bigger goal here is to incorporate changes I can live with on a permanent basis I am actually pleased with how things are going instead of tripping out over the “mistakes” I have made – like eating chocolate mint chip ice cream last night with my little ones.
There is a trickiness to learning to eat well and eat often in small portions choosing to balance out protein, carbs and healthy fats. But with every day that passes I am learning strategies that help.
